Giving Today for Tomorrow: One Donor’s Legacy
Malin Burnham, one of the most renowned philanthropists and business leaders in San Diego, was instrumental in establishing the Heritage Club at our YMCA. He was one of our first donors to the endowment fund, and now Malin and the rest of our members are ensuring that generations of families and children will always be able to access the YMCA.
As an experienced donor, Malin understands the dual importance of giving in the present to help those in need today, and giving an estate gift to help people tomorrow.
“I made a current gift to help establish the endowment way back in 1979 and have remained a Heritage Club member in good standing ever since,” he says. “It’s important for places like the YMCA that are making our communities better to have a foundation of support to build on. Endowment gifts and planned gifts help make that happen.”
Last year, Malin wrote a book, Community Before Self: Seventy Years of Making Waves, which looks at the principles and lessons that have guided his life and philanthropy over the years. “I hope it will be helpful to anyone who understands the importance of community and doing everything we can to support causes like the YMCA,” he says.
You, too, can give a gift today that enables future generations of families to enjoy the YMCA. To learn more, contact Frank Teplin at (858) 514-4491 or [email protected]
